Use the right expectations
The Commission’s high-intensity support guidance includes task-specific requirements, including participant-specific training for relevant activities. An online awareness course should not be treated as permission to carry out a specialised support task.

Define the role clearly
Before assigning learning, clarify what the worker is expected to do and what is outside their role. Identify the appropriate person to provide clinical direction, practical training and assessment. This requires more detail than selecting a course with a similar title.
Separate general knowledge and specific practice
General learning may explain terminology, responsibilities and when to seek help. It cannot establish that someone can safely carry out every step for a particular person. Use the person’s approved support arrangements and the relevant professional guidance.
Keep records meaningful
Record the online activity separately from practical training, assessment and any authorisation required for the task. A certificate should describe what was completed accurately. Review ongoing requirements with the people responsible for training and support oversight.
Choose learning with clear boundaries
Care Enable can assist with awareness content and agreed custom learning. Confirm the scope before enrolling staff and check whether additional qualified training is required. This guide provides no clinical technique or instructions for delivering a high-intensity activity.
High-intensity support training: a practical team exercise
Map the evidence for a specialised role
With the appropriate training lead, identify the general knowledge, person-specific instruction, practical assessment and authorisation relevant to a proposed task. Do not use the discussion to teach a clinical technique.
Review these questions
- Who provides qualified instruction?
- What does the online course cover?
- What must be checked separately?
Agree one improvement, nominate the person responsible and choose when to review it. Keep the exercise separate from decisions requiring specialist advice or role-specific authorisation.
