Begin with the official resource

The NDIS Commission provides the free Worker Orientation Module, Quality, safety and you. It explains workers’ responsibilities from a participant perspective. The Commission’s Code of Conduct guidance identifies it as mandatory for staff of registered NDIS providers.

Add what is specific to your service

Your induction should explain how staff work at your business: approved procedures, contacts, document access, supervision and the systems they use. These details cannot be supplied by a general sector module because they depend on your organisation.

Map the two learning pathways

List the outcomes of the official module and the outcomes of your provider induction. Remove unnecessary repeated explanations while keeping the links between them visible. For example, a broad responsibility can be followed by your internal example and the correct person to contact.

Record the right evidence

Track the required module separately from your custom learning. Decide which documents or completion records you need and who checks them. Staff should know whether completing one activity also satisfies another; do not leave them to guess.

Support application at work

Finish induction with a conversation about practical questions and available support. Care Enable custom training can complement official orientation by explaining your approved policies, but it should not be presented as a substitute for a required Commission module.

NDIS worker orientation: a practical team exercise

Compare two learning objectives

Take one outcome from official orientation and one from your provider induction. Ask whether each explains a broad responsibility or your internal process. Check that the two activities complement each other and that completion evidence is recorded separately.

Review these questions

  • What must staff complete?
  • Where is local procedure explained?
  • Who checks the records?

Agree one improvement, nominate the person responsible and choose when to review it. Keep the exercise separate from decisions requiring specialist advice or role-specific authorisation.
